The Downwind Quintet.

High-energy chamber music for a vibrant city.

Hi! We’re the Downwind Quintet — five emerging classical musicians based in Montreal, Quebec, with a shared love for contemporary music, community outreach, and pizza.

We met in the Fall of 2015, brought together by the inescapable claws of fate — or, more likely, by the chamber music credit required for our coursework at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Since then, we’ve stuck together through thick and thin, rain or shine.  (Or snow.  Lots of snow.)

Last season, we debuted an ambitious arrangement of Stravinsky’s wild Rite of Spring at Café Résonance, and presented a theatrical recital of works by the composers of Theresienstadt concentration camp — a project which was awarded the prestigious Schulich International Grant. Embarking on our third season together, we look forward to collaborating with emerging composers, educators, and innovators throughout 2017-18. To kick things off, we’ll be hitting the GTA in September as featured panelists at the University of Toronto’s first-ever Multidisciplinary Creative Conference!

Please explore our shiny new website! You’ll find a calendar of upcoming events, our professional (and unprofessional) biographies, and some swanky photos by the incomparable Brock Jenken.

Thanks for dropping by! We hope to see you at one of our shows.

With love,

The Downwind Quintet
